The What Works 2 Malawi Consortium successfully hosted a two-day Gender Political Economy Analysis (GPEA) workshop at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre. The event, which ran from May 4 to May 5, brought together key stakeholders to deepen their understanding of the political and economic factors that shape power relations between men and women, particularly in the context of violence against women and girls (VAWG).
Executive Directors from the consortium’s leading organisations madam Maggie Kathewera Banda of the Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC), Faith Phiri of the Girls Empowerment Network (GENET), and Stella Nkhonya of Women and Girls (WAG) Disability Rights, were present along with representatives from the Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Umunthu Foundation, and the NGO Gender Coordination Network.

Participants engaged with a range of critical topics, including the Gender at Work analytical framework, approaches to preventing VAWG, advocacy mapping, power and stakeholder analysis, and understanding chains of influence.
This workshop marked an important foundational step in shaping a national advocacy strategy under the What Works 2 programme, a flagship initiative funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
