The Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza (PKN) programme was officially launched to combat Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in the districts of Balaka and Lilongwe. The groundbreaking initiative, implemented by a consortium consisting of WOLREC, Girls Empowerment Network (GENET), and Human Rights for Women and Girls with Disabilities in Malawi (WAG), aims to reach 750,000 lives over the next 4.5 years.

Global Director of What Works 2 Prevent Violence, Anne Gathumbi, highlighted the effectiveness of models used in the programme, stating, "We have models that work, like Sasa! Together, Moyo Olemekezeka, and Survivor Support Fund. These are key elements of successful programming, and we have evidence that it works."
The programme's goal is to reduce sexual, physical, economic, and psychological violence in intimate partner relationships. WOLREC Executive Director Maggie Kathewera Banda emphasized the programme's objectives, saying, "At the end of the four and a half years, we expect that survivors of violence are more willing and able to report violence and seek help, and that the government of Malawi prioritizes VAWG prevention and improved response efforts."
British High Commissioner to Malawi Fiona Ritchie praised the launch, stating, "This serves to remind us that violence against women and girls continues to remain a global crisis. We need to work together to make sure that every woman and girl lives away from harm."
The programme's launch marks a significant step towards combating GBV in Malawi, with the consortium working together to create a safer, more equitable society.
