The What Works 2 consortium developed an Advocacy Strategy for the Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza (PKN) project, which was set to be implemented in the districts of Lilongwe and Balaka. The strategy aimed to guide advocacy efforts toward ending violence against women and girls as part of a broader initiative under the global What Works 2 programme.

A consultative meeting was held at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre to gather inputs for the strategy. The consortium, comprising the Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC), Girls Empowerment Network (GENET), and Women and Girls (WAG) Disability Rights, participated in the discussions. The session focused on building a strategy that was inclusive, evidence-based, and tailored to community needs.
Several key stakeholders were also engaged in the strategy development process. These included representatives from the NGO-Gender Coordination Network, the Ministry of Gender, the Malawi Police Service, and the Judiciary. Their involvement helped ensure that the strategy aligned with national policies and institutional frameworks.
The discussions outlined the goals of the strategy, identified priority advocacy areas, and explored effective communication methods. Special attention was given to the needs and rights of women and girls with disabilities, reinforcing the commitment to equity and inclusivity in the fight against gender-based violence.
The Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza project was designed as a four-year intervention funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Through collaboration and sustained advocacy, the project aimed to contribute to a Malawi where women and girls could live free from violence.
