A ten-day social empowerment training for 25 Moyo Olemekezeka facilitators under the Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza (PKN) program is currently underway in Traditional Authority Nkaya, Balaka.

Moyo Olemekezeka is an approach in the PKN program that engages selected families to prevent violence and promote positive change. It also integrates an economic empowerment component that supports women to achieve greater financial independence.
The facilitators are being trained on how they will be engaging with the recruited families and how to administer the sessions.
This is crucial, as they will work directly with families to promote social empowerment, challenge harmful social norms, and address attitudes that perpetuate violence among intimate partners.
Through this training, facilitators are being equipped with essential knowledge and practical skills to tackle the root causes of intimate partner violence and to foster a culture of respect, equality, and support within communities. Another set of 25 facilitators is undergoing similar training in Lilongwe.
The Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza program is implemented by a consortium of Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC), Human Rights for Women and Girls with Disabilities in Malawi - hrwgdm, and Girls Empowerment Network (GENET) in Lilongwe and Balaka, with funding from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) through What Works to Prevent Violence.
